The latest single from TMR favourites Chartreuse is ‘Whippet’. It leans further into the band’s electronic influences, while borrowing from folk, jazz and rock to craft their self-described “ambient dark pop”. It’s also one of their most memorably melodic releases, with a soft, almost effortless vocal drifting slowly throughout. The track was formed from a conversational lead singer Hattie had with a friend in the pub: “She was asking me what my plans were, and I said I didn't know," she explains. "A lot of our friends have serious careers, and we're in a band. I felt bitter about having to have the conversation, so the line 'left like a whippet' is me wanting to leave and stop talking about it."
